Starbucks in Metz, France

A couple of weeks ago, a French trainee of mine came back from a business trip in the US. We talked about it and he shared some of the culture shocks he experienced. Since I’ve been living in France (almost 8 years now!), I’ve constantly experienced culture shocks of my own, so it was interesting to hear a French point-of-view for once. Out of the many anecdotes he shared was Starbucks. On his first morning in Chicago, his colleague told him he would pick him up to have breakfast. He brought him to Starbucks. His colleague suggested taking a break in the middle of the day. They went to the nearest Starbucks. Then they went out for dinner. They ate their main dish and dessert, but they didn’t have coffee like French people do at the end of a meal. When they got in the car, he believed they were going home. Turns out, his colleague was driving them to …. yes, you guessed it – Starbucks. « Why didn’t we have coffee at the end of the meal back in the restaurant? », he asked himself.

Shopping Cart: Back-to-School 2018 – Fille (Zara, H&M, Mango, and Tape à l’Oeil)

After shopping for myself (click here for the post), it is time to shop for my 10-year school daughter who is going back to school on the 3rd of September. Actually, she’s sorta going back this week, but half-day only. The school calls it « stage de remise à niveau ». When the director asked me if it was something I was interested in for Baby Girl, I instantly agreed. After a 2-month break, I thought it would help her get back to the rhythm of waking up early, working on school stuff, eating at the proper time, and sleeping early. She can also work on the lessons she has difficulties in, particularly French. She’s doing well, but it’s always a bit tough to juggle several languages. We generally speak only English at home, Baby Girl speaks French at school but is also taking English and German classes, and the Husband and I speak in Filipino to each other at home.

I can’t believe the month of August is almost coming to an end! These past 2 months have been great. Baby Girl was off school and stayed at home. I tried to work less to spend as much time as possible with her. The Husband had a week off and we spent that together. Ahhhh … what fun that was! I simply cannot believe this is coming to an end! In a week, Baby Girl will be back to school and I’ll be back to working full-time. For this, we need to prepare ourselves accordingly, starting with new additions to our wardrobe. This post is for me, a selection of plus-size items, and the next post will be for Baby Girl.

Happy 10th Birthday, Baby Girl!

Baby Girl turned 10 years old. 10 years old. I don’t know whether I want to cry or smile. Smile because somehow the Husband and I were able to make it 10 years in this challenging journey. We were just 22-23 years old when we became parents and shit-scared truthfully. And then I also want to cry. Cry because these past 10 years have flown by so quickly. Like a blink of an eye. When I think about it, 10 years from now she’ll be an adult, busy with her own adult responsibilities, living on her own … Sigh. Anyways, let’s just stop with these emotional / sentimental thoughts.

L’Eveil in Metz, France

Sadly, I haven’t been eating out for a while. It’s a pity though because I love eating out! But I haven’t had time, work was in the way, or a question of budget too! Anyways, I was having a quick drink with friends after work the other evening when I walked by the restaurant, L’Eveil in Metz, France. I was in a hurry to go home to be with Baby Girl, but I couldn’t help but think about the time we had dinner there.

Oven-Baked Chicken Legs

I must be crazy to use the oven today, but I really really really love this recipe. Plus, it’s so easy to prepare! Yesterday was such a hot day so I probably wouldn’t have done it then though. Temperatures reached 36 degrees Celsius. I had to go home early from work because I felt ill. Problem was, I was sweating all morning, really sweating, and then in the afternoon it dried up. I knew I was going to be ill. By 4PM, I was sneezing, had a runny nose, and feeling chilly. Today, maximum temperature reached 26 degrees Celsius, but most importantly it was a little bit windy.

Hello! Here I am again. 😀

May was a month full of public holidays so I had plenty of time to spend on Netflix. Plus, it was raining quite a bit in May and June, so we couldn’t really spend any time outdoors. But anyways, I love Netflix so this was pure pleasure!

Renting an apartment in France

Hey everyone! I know it’s been a while but hey, I had a good excuse – we moved to a new apartment! I know, I know you might wonder what’s so complicated about that. But anyone who lives in France knows how difficult it is to find a rental place and be approved. Living in Metz is much easier than in Paris or Lyon for example, but man when our application was finally accepted and I had the keys in my hand, I felt like I had just joined a marathon! But there’s no time to breathe and relax- next is moving out and moving in – which is just another step in this whole ordeal.
