Hey, you! 🇮🇹
Last May, we took advantage of a long weekend to go to Milan, Italy for 3 days. We probaby could have gone for 4 days, but I wanted to reserve 1 day to stay at home before going back to work that Monday.
Call me crazy, but we opted to travel to Milan by bus this time. I like travelling by bus, but even I can admit that 9 hours is a lot. Thankfully, a lot of it was done at night, so after falling in and out of sleep for several hours, we were finally in Milan! The scenic drive in the Swiss Alps is amazingly beautiful! 😍
Milan is always a good idea for several reasons ... the sights, the food, and Jollibee! Hahaha
Unless I'm mistaken, Jollibee's first European address is Milan and that definitely tipped the scale when we discussed where our escapade destination was going to be.
Our arrival in Milan started with a bang. Once our bus arrived in Milan, there was a police check point and there were at least 12 police officers. We were asked to get off the bus, get our things, and we had to stay in line while the police dogs sniffed us. Who needs coffee when you have this kind of morning wake-up call, right? One might find this situation stressful but when you have nothing to hide, it's ok. Anyways, much to my husband's chagrin, I was busy checking out the hot Italian police officers. Hahaha.
I decided to reserve a hotel outside of the city. A subway + bus ride away. But I don't regret it as it was wayyyy cheaper than hotels in the city and it was really nice and clean. We stayed at the Best Western Falck Village Hotel. I'll write all about it in another post because it's honestly worth checking out.
On our way to the hotel, we decided to stop and have a cup of cappuccino in the best place we discovered during this trip - Spinnaker Restaurant Milan. It was the best cup of cappuccino I have ever had in my life! I'm not kidding!
We quickly checked-in. our hotel. We were lucky that our room was already ready. But we didn't feel like resting, so we quickly went out to explore the city. By the subway entrance, we found the Italian version of a Boulangerie / Bakery. I could not resist buying a Foccaccia. Who could resist, right?? Haha It was so good and we ended up coming back here several times during our stay. This was the second great find of this trip!
Foccaccia in hand, we took the subway and made our way to the Duomo Milano. The Cthedral of Milan is known throughout the world for its grandeur and beauty. It houses thousands of statues and hundreds of gargoyles and church figures and is revered as a staple of the French Gothic style.
It was too late for us to go inside, but we considered ourselves lucky to see its beauty from outside. We were in awe!
Then we made our way to the Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele, which is just a few steps away from the cathedral.
You can find many stores (many luxurious brands) and restaurants. We found a cute bookshop, but everything was in Italian. We had one mission to do at the Galleria and that was to find the bull, place our right heel on the bull's balls, and turn three times clockwise. Apparently, if you do this, you are guaranteed good fortune.
An hour of shopping, mostly window shopping, later and we decided that it was time to go to Jollibee! This was, hands-down, the scariest experience I've ever had while travelling. Make sure to read all about it in the next post!
Where did you last travel to? ✈️
xoxo Elodie
