Hey, you! 🥖
In planning for our daughter's confirmation lunch (click here and here), I had to think of something that would be easy to prepare and most especially something that I could serve as appetisers while waiting for the rest of the food to be ready.
Cake Salé, or Savory Cake, is a French apéro staple. I decided to make 5 different Cake Salé. Ham and Cheese is a sure crowd pleaser. But I wanted to play around with other flavours too. I personally loved the Tuna and Green Olives combo. The Veggie-Style with bell peppers and onions was also good. My Husband loved the Chorizo-Feta one and our daughter loved the Smoked Bacon-Red Onion. Needless to say, they were a hit!
Another great thing about Cake Salé is that they thaw perfectly well so you can keep it, tightly wrapped, for up to 1 month in the freezer. On the day you need them, you just let it thaw on the kitchen counter for 2-3 hours (depending on room temperature). I find that they are even more tasty than the freshly baked ones! In the summer, I always try to have one in the freezer for those impromptu summer happy hour. 🍸🍻🍹
Would you try this? 😊
