Hey, you! š¤
The month of February started so well. We welcomed a foreign exchange student at home and aside from one incident, everything went quite smoothly. As a matter of fact, as I'm typing this right now, my daughter is in Germany for a week as part of the program. I will write all about it in a future post. This was a first time experience for us, so if I can help any other families who are thinking of joining a foreign exchange student program, that would be great.
Unfortunately, as we started the second week of February, everything started going downhill from there. The wind changed direction. First, my daughter fell ill. The Flu, we were told by the doctor. I was ok for the first few days, but as it happens each and every time, I was next to be bitten by the virus. It must have been a terrible virus because even the Husband was ill which never ever happens. When we had the Covid last year, both S and I tested positive but without any major symptoms while the Husband never tested positive although we were hanging out casually with each other at home.
As I mentioned, this flu was pretty bad. Three weeks of being knocked out. Major fatigue, fever, chills, runny nose, dry cough which turned productive and is now back to dry (because yes, after 4 weeks I am still not 100% back on my feet yet), headache, backache, and for me - I completely lost my voice too! I had zero voice for almost 2 weeks. In line with my work, I was pretty worried to the point that I had a mini-anxiety attack which I was thankfully able to manage. But it was really hard. It's been four weeks and I am still coughing a bit and my voice isn't 100% back (more like 85%-90%).
I was so ready with my content creation for February. I was going to film several reels especially because of Valentine's. I had decided in January that it was time to share more of my recipes and then this happened. My morale was low, lower than the ground and I was very disappointed. I lost 4 clients with my life coaching business. I've been to work for 2 weeks now and I still haven't gotten back those clients. I haven't shared anything on my podcast and even on the e-shop! In fact, I am still catching up with my work load. I guess they were right after all - health is wealth indeed.
And as if that wasn't bad enough - a burglar tried to break and enter our home. It took about 5 minutes for him to break our door system. Scary shit, right??
On Tuesday, the 21st of February at 6pm, someone knocked on our front door. I'm so sure about the time because I clearly heard the knock while I was lying in bed surfing on the internet on my phone. I had been feeling shitty all day, my voice was all f*cked up, and I was basically just staying in bed simmering in my misery. Normally, I would have gotten up and opened the door, but I decided not to because I was feeling so bad. Then for the next minutes I heard noises coming from tools. And I just I knew something was up so I called my husband on the phone. He was resting in another room and I had no voice to shout and call him. Thankfully he saw my message right away and it took him a minute to get to the front door. Surprise surprise, when he tried to open it, the handle broke loose in his hand. The burglar obviously wasn't there anymore, probably ran away like a scaredy cat when he heard my husband's footsteps.
Problem is though - with the door being locked from the inside and the handle in my husband's hand, we were pretty much locked in! So we called the locksmith, who arrived in less than 1 hour, he changed our locks, then we had to pay him the night rate, which is double the day rate because it was after 6pm. Great, just great.
We really did not need this. In the first place, I felt shitty because of the stupid flu then this happened. I was getting punished but I had no idea why the hell I was. Needless to say, I went straight to bed and slept the night away. I loved how friends sent me messages asking if I was ok and if I would be able to sleep. You know, if I was scared and all. Pfff, I was feeling so bad that I didn't even think about that. I just slept.
Why did this have to happen? Life's full of mystery! My husband later found out that this has been happening a lot at his workplace too, which is not too far from our home. We don't live in a bad area of the city, in fact it's a very residential area, but current times are tough, and some people just find it easier to steal from others instead of looking for a legit job. F*ck them.
For the next post, I will share our experience with the health care system here in France, but I want to get into more details about this breaking-and-entering, and before I forget, the foreign exchange student program as well. I originally wanted to write the Husband's and my relationship for Valentine's. We have been with each other for 22 years now, but I'll keep that post for our anniversary instead. Urgent matters first. LOL šš
