We don't have a car anymore!

Updated: Jun 4, 2022

Hey, you! 😢

Where do I begin? *insert sigh*

Last time I wrote here was for Mother's Day last Sunday (click here for the post). I wanted to keep that post happy and joyful because it was a wonderful day until ....

We saw that our car was badly damaged!

We don't know exactly what happened but here's what we know: The Husband came home from work at around 10pm on Saturday and parked the car on the street as we usually do (in a legit street parking space). That evening, there was the Champions League match (Liverpool vs. Real Madrid) and it was a big event. I'm not sure if there is any link, but it's worth mentioning it.

On Sunday, after Mother's Day lunch, the Husband had to go to work and *surprise, surprise* he saw that our car was badly damaged, on the driver side. Because of this, it was difficult to open the doors and the side mirror was broken in pieces. There was no way the Husband could take the car to go to work, so he had to find an alternative solution.

I can still remember hearing the sadness in his voice when he called me and said, "I'm so sorry to do this today my love, but something happened .... "

It's been a few days now and I feel like I've been through the stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance). I was very angry at some point because of the car insurance system in France. Did you know that in France if it's a hit-n-run (like what happened to us) in a public parking area then you are considered "responsible" for the damage? How does that even make sense? I have no problem facing the consequences of MY actions, but tell me, why should I pay for the actions of someone else? Obviously it was a very irresponsible driver who probably had a little too much to drink.

The car was parked in a street which is almost impossible to have any accidents on unless one loses control of their car. We think that the driver was most probably drunk, lost control of the car, and hit our car before going their way. I don't even want to imagine if there had been a man, a woman, or a child standing there. Oh and by the way, our car was not the only victim. The stupid driver also hit the car in front of us and the one behind us !!

Last Monday, the Husband spent the afternoon at the police station to file a report. It's protocol but I doubt that they will find the driver. But who knows, right?

Soooo, what's next for us?

We have no choice, but to start looking for a new car as The Husband needs one asap for work. Pfffff, life has a funny way of surprising us. Sometimes good and sometimes not-so-good.

xoxo Elodie
